Odoo V20’s New Features – A Bista Perspective

Odoo 20 was introduced at Odoo Experience in Belgium on September 24, 2026. The release brings changes across accounting, sales, purchasing, manufacturing, services and online commerce, alongside a refreshed interface and expanded AI capabilities.

For businesses evaluating the release, the useful question is where those changes fit into their operations. A better way to reserve incoming stock, prepare a quotation or investigate a payment can make a difference when that task is repeated throughout the week.

AI that can carry out defined tasks

Odoo 20 lets users describe a workflow in everyday language and have an AI agent help set it up. Odoo’s launch demonstration includes creating a sales order from an incoming email, sending a confirmation and flagging the order for review.

Agents can create and update records and run through scheduled or automated actions. Users can ask questions about a document while it is being previewed, and external AI tools can also connect to the Odoo database.

These capabilities open up options for recurring administrative work. Businesses still need to decide what the agent may change, which actions require approval and who reviews exceptions. Odoo also specifies that its AI features require credits purchased through its in-app services.

Accounting: quicker answers and clearer transaction checks

The Accounting AI assistant can answer questions about receivables, cash flow and other financial figures using the accounting data in the database. That gives finance teams another way to investigate their numbers without starting each enquiry by navigating several reports.

Other changes address transaction processing:

  • Bill entry suggestions draw on previous bills to help populate accounting details.
  • Improved purchase order matching highlights differences in quantities and prices.
  • The payment wizard accounts for pending payments when calculating the remaining amount due.

Bill payments can also be initiated directly from Odoo through supported payment providers, individually or in batches. Availability needs to be checked against the company’s banking setup.

Purchasing and Inventory: better information for replenishment

Odoo 20 suggests minimum and maximum stock levels using demand history, desired stock coverage and ordering frequency. Purchasing teams can also review vendor quality performance based on recorded quality checks.

The allocation workflow has been refined to make it easier to reserve stock for particular orders and see which orders depend on incoming shipments.

Together, these changes give buyers and warehouse teams more information to work with when deciding what to order and where to allocate it. The suggestions should still be checked against seasonal demand, unusual orders and supplier constraints.

Manufacturing: partial quantities can move through production

With continuous production enabled on a bill of materials, operators can record completed quantities at a work order and release those quantities to the next operation. The next stage can begin while the rest of the batch is still being processed.

Odoo 20 also includes bill of materials comparisons, revised planning views and the ability to split an ongoing manufacturing order so the remaining quantity can be produced later. Kanban and Gantt views support clearer scheduling and drag-and-drop adjustments.

For manufacturers, the opportunity is to bring the system closer to how production actually moves. Routing, capacity and quality requirements will determine how each business should use that flexibility.

CRM and Sales: easier pipeline management and quotation preparation

CRM now uses Dun & Bradstreet for company data in lead generation. A pipeline selector makes switching between sales teams easier, while lead assignment offers more control over which team members participate in rotation.

In Sales, a performance dashboard provides quick access to key figures. Reusable quotation sections let teams insert a familiar group of products or services into a new proposal.

That is useful for businesses whose quotes combine standard packages with customer-specific requirements. Teams can spend more time checking scope and pricing, with less time rebuilding the same quotation components.

Website, eCommerce and Marketing

The Website assistant can create pages from a written description. Online customers can request product returns through the customer portal, select a preferred delivery date where enabled, and use updated product filtering options.

Email Marketing adds dynamic mailing lists and content blocks that can vary by recipient. These are practical additions for companies managing different customer groups, product interests or purchasing patterns.

A generated page still needs an editorial check. Product information, brand language and the steps customers follow to enquire or buy should be reviewed before publication.

Planning and Field Operations

Field Service functionality is now part of Planning, bringing service scheduling into the same app. Updates include location-aware automatic planning, technician tracking on a live map, routing options and access to customer equipment and intervention history.

Existing users should examine how their current service processes translate into this structure, particularly dispatching, worksheets, materials and billing.

Other updates worth reviewing

Area Changes included in Odoo 20
Payroll Revised dashboard and pay run workflow, net-to-gross salary simulation and test printing before validation.
Payroll structure Work entries and the Planning-Payroll integration have been removed, making this an important area to review during migration.
Point of Sale Multiple currencies at checkout, more restrictive employee access and customer notes on self-service orders.
Phone A visual incoming-call flow designer, call logging against records and transfers between devices.

A refreshed interface and offline working

Odoo 20’s interface uses cleaner layouts, updated icons and softer status colours. Offline mode supports browsing, searching and creating or editing records, with a queue for synchronising changes when connectivity returns. Its prerequisites and supported workflows should be tested on the devices employees use.

Some enhancements appeared first in Odoo’s interim Online releases. This overview covers capabilities included in Odoo 20; the difference for an individual business will depend on its starting version.

Bista Solutions’ Perspective on Odoo V20

Our longstanding work with Odoo, and eight Odoo Best Partner North America awards, gives us a practical basis for assessing this release. We look at where a feature can reduce repeated work, support a business requirement or replace a workaround that has become difficult to maintain.

The manufacturing and inventory changes deserve particular attention. Moving partial quantities through production and improving stock allocation address decisions that directly affect delivery commitments. In finance, clearer matching and payment checks can help teams investigate discrepancies earlier.

The expanded AI capabilities are promising, provided businesses define the work carefully. Start with a recurring task, agree on the expected result, and measure how often someone needs to correct it. That provides a firmer basis for expanding its use.

Before setting an upgrade date, we would review custom modules and integrations, reassess workarounds against the new standard features, and test complete processes across departments. The aim should be a specific improvement in how the business runs. Odoo V20 offers several places to begin.
