About Southern Hunt Club - Buck Gardner & Rolling Thunder Game Calls

Based in Memphis, Tennessee - Southern Hunt Club is an outdoor recreation holding company with two subsidiaries: Buck Gardner Calls and Rolling Thunder Game Calls. Both subsidiaries manufacture game calls (devices that mimic animal calls for recreational hunters). These devices include duck calls, turkey calls, goose calls, and so much more. 

With quality being their calling since 1996 - Southern Hunt Club seeks to make top-notch products at competitive prices.

Daily operations of manufacturing and shipping consist of CNC, product cutting, milling and lathing duck calls, laser engraving, pad printing, hand tuning, among other things.

Key Challenges & Requirements

Southern Hunt Club used Quickbooks to manage their system and it wasn’t long before they realized that the software was more of an accounting platform - not an all-in-one ERP system. As a manufacturing company and handled distribution as well, this was a problem. Furthermore, all their processes were spread out on different platforms, which made it difficult to track information and ultimately hindered business decision-making.

 

The requirements, on the other hand, were simple enough. Southern Hunt Club wanted to implement a platform that could do what Quickbooks couldn’t. This meant the ERP solution needed to track both cost of goods sold (COGs), labour, and everything in between - all in one platform. Centralization was key in this situation. In addition to that, the company wanted something that was both affordable and scalable.

 

The growth of the business prompted Fabspeed to take a look at the management of their processes and it made them realize that they didn’t have the appropriate software or tools to allow for scalability. Furthermore, their information was scattered across multiple channels. The goal then became to eliminate all those islands of information and centralize everything onto one platform. More importantly, however, the company wanted to implement an ERP solution that was adaptable and tailored to Fabspeed - not one that forced Fabspeed to adapt to the new software.

 

The Implementation

Upon searching for the right ERP solutions, the team at Southern Hunt club came upon Odoo and knew that it was exactly what they were looking for.  Not only was it all-in-one - having multiple modules under one platform, the software was both affordable and scalable. Odoo recommended Bista - and as John Dicken III, the Director of Operations, claims, “Our experience with the Bista implementation team was really nothing but positive.”

 

The Bista Solution worked around Southern Hunt Club’s schedule. The actual implementation consisted of the following modules: CRM, Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, Accounting, and Barcode. There were other minor additions including fully customized reports under Inventory, integrating Shopify into Odoo, and whatnot.

 

Working with the Bista Team

According to John, he had really high expectations from the get-go. Fortunately, the Bista implementation team not only met, but also in some instances, exceeded all his expectations. Not only was the team completely professional, they were fast, responsive and knew exactly what they were doing. 

 

Furthermore, during the implementation process, the Bista team was available after-hours, during the weekend, and even though the project is now live - Southern Hunt Club receives continuous and on-going support. This is even before they have signed the support contract.
